Pennsylvania Winter

I thought I'd show you a bit of how I worked through this painting. It was done on vellour paper - very nice to work on. The pastels glide over the surface but don't tear your fingers up like the silicon grit papers. In the first photo I just drew the image on- used purple  for the cornstalks  and placed the buildings and mountain. #2 I added more details to the barn and added color to the sky and  more snow.

by #3 I was defining the stubble in the field further adding yellows and trying to color up the couds a bit. I 'd rather have more color than less.  I like to se the dark purples, and greens and pinks rather than brown and grey shadows. By #4 I'd added trees included the shadows

on the buildings to sharpen them.  Af ter I thought I was finished I went back in andincluded the small flock of birds that you always see. It added a little life to this cold winter scene. Here is the final painting:

Linda,

It's beautiful! You captured the feeling of the scene for me. Feel free to use any more of my pictures. It's exciting to me to see them inspiring such beautiful artwork!
